KGrant_WebKATE GRANT

Company/business: Fresh Ideas Food Service

About you, in one word: Blessed

What are your hobbies? Spending time with family and friends especially while skiing or boating at the lake. I’m also a spa junkie and love to travel.

Describe your perfect afternoon in Columbia: My perfect afternoon in Columbia would include any of the following: a massage, glass of Solay at the winery, watching my kids play baseball and a run or bike ride on the trail.

What’s the last thing you read (book/magazine/print or digital) purely for entertainment? I always read for entertainment on vacation and recently read the Hunger Games series. I am always wishing for more time for entertainment reading. I also recently listened to Bill Severns books on kids and baseball (both entertaining and instructional). They are wonderful!

What’s in your [vehicle] cup-holder or glove box right now? Loose change, lip gloss, gum, sunglasses and phone chargers.

One woman you admire and why: I have admired Angela Ahrendts for many years. She is the former CEO of Burberry and recently became the head of Apple’s retail division. She transformed the Burberry brand and became the highest paid CEO in the UK. She is a dynamic leader, and I have especially admired the way she was able to bring the latest in technology and social media to the fashion industry. Pretty amazing career for a girl born and raised in the Midwest.

What advice do you have for other women still trying to find success in their life (relationship, career, etc.)? I believe in setting goals, but I also think it’s important to be open to new ideas and opportunities that come along that change your direction. After nearly twenty years in my career, I feel that “who” you work for and represent is more important than what you do. Continuing to develop your skills and learn from others is a key to success…and don’t be afraid of hard work. I am blessed to be able to work in a position that I love with people that I admire and respect.

What is your favorite place to shop for a little black dress in Columbia? I love to shop (i.e. retail therapy) but my favorite places for dresses would be my girlfriends’ closets. Last year I got my dress at Plato’s for $12. Dresses are a great thing to recycle.

What motivated you to be an ambassador for Little Black Dress? I am passionate about helping True North in any way I can. I serve as a True North board member and was a speaker at last year’s event. I know first-hand the effects of domestic violence. True North serves these women in need and continues to strive for a safer community.

Company/business: Williams Keepers, LLC – CPA’s & Trusted Advisors

About you, in one word: Passionate

What are your hobbies? No longer golf (I liked golf better than it liked me) nor walking my dog (arthritis struck his hind legs) so I have to say “GNO’s” with my girlfriends (Girls’ Night Out)

Describe your perfect afternoon in Columbia: Spending time with my husband, George and our “boys”, Jeremy and Ashton (Jeremy the talking parrott and Ashton the wonder dog.

What’s the last thing you read (book/magazine/print or digital) purely for entertainment? Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

What’s in your [vehicle] cup-holder or glove box right now? Pen and pad to write to-do reminder notes to myself

One woman you admire and why: Barbara Hodges, True North’s Executive Director, because she too is passionate and so dedicated to her service at True North.

What advice do you have for other women still trying to find success in their life (relationship, career, etc.)? Same thing my father told me: Be true to your heart and you’ll find a career you love for life – which is what the CPA profession and Williams Keepers have been for me!

What is your favorite place to shop for a little black dress in Columbia? Gee, I don’t even remember the last time I bought a dress so I’ll need to ask my girlfriends for a recommendation!

What motivated you to be an ambassador for Little Black Dress? Domestic violence is a terrible offense and it strikes with no regard to economic or social well-being so, seeing Barbara Hodges and her associates’ dedication and achievements won my heart over a long time ago as they continue their mission today.
